BFA Illustration Program Goals, Outcomes & Mission
Program Mission Statement:
Illustration like Graphic Design is an applied art and as such seeks to unite Illustration students to career opportunities in the visual communications industry that requires not just proficient skills in drawing and painting but also technical skills in numerous digital platforms. Equally important to the technical education of the illustration student is the intellectual development which requires all the knowledge, discipline, sensitivity and awareness of a liberally educated intelligence. Students in the illustration program acquire the skills necessary to compete in an ever expanding and increasingly diverse visual arts industry that serves a vast array of visual communications applications.
Goal 1: To help students master the traditional mediums used in the illustration field.
Goal 2: To develop a mastery of digital media.
a. Outcome/Objective 2.1: Illustration students will obtain proficiency in the use of a variety of creative digital software.
b. Outcome/Objective 2.2: Illustration students will develop the ability to apply traditional illustration techniques to a wide range of visual communication applications for either print or digital platforms.
Goal 3: To develop enhanced knowledge, skills and values leading to the production of a professional portfolio.
a. Outcome/Objective 3.1: Illustration seniors will demonstrate advanced understanding of the knowledge, skills and values consistent with the core curriculum.
b. Outcome/Objective 3.2: Illustration students will show evidence of effective methodology including research, planning & editing when completing Illustration assignments.
c. Outcome/Objective 3.3: Illustration seniors will demonstrate the ability to plan, execute and promote and illustration portfolio and produce a professional portfolio that represents proficiency in both traditional and digital media.

- Outcome/Objective 1.2: Illustration seniors will demonstrate proficiency in communicating narrative in single and multiple image formats.
- Outcome/Objective 1.3: Illustration seniors will demonstrate effective communication skills in a variety of formats and proficiency in the visual, verbal and written vocabularies of the visual arts.
